Workshop one.                       Studio lighting                    September 10th

Lighting is one thing that can make your work sparkle. Improving here can really make your work stand out. Many studios are somewhat static and formulaic in their lighting setups. My background covers motion picture techniques as well as more advanced studio and location stills work.

If you are familiar with my work or with Crit365, you will know of my love of  light. The aim of this workshop is to take your lighting technique up a notch. Whether you’re new to studio lighting or you’re at an intermediate level,this one day course is designed to give you a new insight into what studio lighting can add to your work.

The day will be split into two parts

Theory.

In the morning I will introduce you to the main types of studio lighting and their positive and negative applications.

  • Flash
  • Tungsten
  • HMI
  • Fluorescent

We will work through the theory of lighting.

  • 3 point lighting
  • Beauty/portrait lighting,
  • Motivated source lighting
  • Lighting for different colour and texture backgrounds.

We will also cover, how to work with a make-up artist. To get the best out of a model in fashion or beauty photography both photographer and make-up artist must work as a team. Lighting for different

Practical

Bring your ideas. You will get a 45-50 minute slot with our model to create images you can use in your portfolio or on Istock. Use our model make-up artist and stylist well and you could be walking away with your own high-end photo story.

Prerequisites

  • This workshop will be conducted at the Intermediate-Advancd level.
  • You should know the basic operation of your camera.
  • It is essential you know how to set aperture and shutter speed.

What to bring

  • A Digital SLR.
  • A set of lenses covering from 24mm to 100mm is ideal.
  • Laptop with Photoshop and a card reader. (Optional)
  • Your curiosity.
